One of the best ways I've discovered to teach myself the bass is to transcribe the great work of other bass players or to write charts from original chord changes.  What follows are pdfs of some of my attempts.

PLEASE NOTE:  these arrangements/transcriptions were undertaken as a learning exercise and are FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY.  All rights remain with the original composer(s), and any transcription will be removed immediately if any composer contacts me with a concern.

 Comments/suggestions/corrections also welcomed. Smile

Joy Spring - walking bass chart for the Clifford Brown jazz vocal classic, as sung by Manhattan Transfer

Embraceable You -  bass chart for the Jay Althouse arrangement of a George and Ira Gershwin favorite

I'll See It Through-  classic 12 bar swing blues by Colin James , with Norm Fisher on bass.  1999

Jazz Exsultate - simple bass chart for a John Purifoy tune

Shed A Little Light -  simple bass chart for a James Taylor classic

Snowfall -- easy bass chart for Claude Thornhill's swing ballad, as arranged by Roger Emerson and performed by Manhatten Transfer
